"Lastly, she pictured to herself how this same little sister of hers would in the after-time, be herself a grown woman; and how she would keep, through all her riper years, the simple and loving heart of her childhood; and how she would gather about her other little children, and make their eyes bright and eager with many a strange tale, perhaps, even with the dream of Wonderland of long ago; and how she would feel with all their simple sorrows, and find a pleasure in all their simple joys, remembering her own child-life, and the happy summer days." - Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
May all of us lead our students in to Wonderland so that they can create their own smoking caterpillars, grinning Cheshire cats, mad hatters, jabberwockys and all other things yet to be imagined.
This class has been a wonderful role-reversal and it has been a pleasure switching perspectives from teacher to student and student to teacher. We step in to our classrooms with a toolbox heavy with knowledge and skills. Thank you Dr. Rivera, fellow cohorts, and especially my own cohort III: Platypuses. We made it through the summer!
In this course, educators will learn how to support the needs of adolescent and young adults, helping them develop into confident, and independent readers and writers. Focus will be on the improvement of literacy skills through meaningful, constructive engagements in reading and writing.
Nice way of envisioning a year ahead with happy days! A positive attitude is what makes us get thru the day feeling accomplished. It should be a requirement for everyone to be positive! With that said, I'm eager to get thru our first year teaching!!! Thanks, fellow Platypus, for keeping me grounded!
ReplyDeletePJ,
ReplyDeleteYou're most welcome! Indeed, your schema of various literacy strategies/activities has increased. I encourage you to use the engaging activities to meet the literacy needs of your students. Good luck!
Best regards,
Dr. Rivera
Great quote! It will be fun to see our students hard at work at something that we once had worked hard at. May Wonderland come alive for all of us!
ReplyDeleteWell said PJ. Although this is our last blog enrty, we'll see each other at school or in class.
ReplyDeletePJ, great job as always and I definitely agree with your concepts. We all worked very well together.
ReplyDeleteI am glad we kept our mascot of the Platypuses. I stand by that they are cute, dangerous, mysterious, and, most importantly, uniquely different. I think that sums up our group quite well.
ReplyDeleteI want to thank you again, PJ, for being a good leader and to my fellow Platypuses, for being the best support a guy can have. Especially a guy like me who has trouble focusing at times. It truly has been an honor!
May all of us lead our students in to Wonderland so that they can create their own smoking caterpillars, grinning Cheshire cats, mad hatters, jabberwockys and all other things yet to be imagined.
