Because I love and value reading, whether it's for fun or not, I found this assignment quite interesting. Can I just admit that I had no idea of the multitude of online references and sources for strategies like this? It is such a valuable part of our teaching and learning process. I suppose after reading many of the websites, we have all been exposed to the major strategies in one way or another.
These strategies will be most helpful to me in teaching Science when students are trying to make a connection between what they know and how they are going to use what you're teaching in real life. I'm so glad that I have tools to use in helping them build their knowledge base and develop their self-confidence in expressing their thoughts. It will be interesting and at times, I question whether I can pull it off. It's always worth a try, isn't it?
In this course, educators will learn how to support the needs of adolescent and young adults, helping them develop into confident, and independent readers and writers. Focus will be on the improvement of literacy skills through meaningful, constructive engagements in reading and writing.
I know what you mean MLyda. There were a lot of resources to be found, and I feel like i lucked out on this one. So many of those activities and strategies can be applied to my content area of social studies. Very useful!
