How Fun!

I hope this doesn't post twice. I hit the "Publish Post" button and it said "Conflicting error-press the back button", so I did and it brought me back here, but with no body...which means I have to write everything over again...*sigh*. As PJ would say, I have to accept defeat. But I refuse to walk away for half-an-hour because then that is 30 minutes less sleep...so, I have to hope and pray that it doesn't do it to me again.

As I wrote 20 minutes ago, I am really starting to enjoy this class because I am getting the hang of it. In fact, Arlene and I were just talking the other day about how addicting this class is becoming because we want to always log on to hear everyone's comments, suggestions, and input. The only bad part about an online class, is I have to do everything in the middle of the night when my children are all asleep. But other than that, I really am enjoying the class. The graffiti board was very informative and I am happy I got to try it now because when I want to utilize it in my classroom, I will have an easier time setting up rules and a rubrics. The literacy strategies and reading response activities are really good ideas to utilize in the classroom and everyone is giving really great ideas and advice.

My cohort and I are excited to start our interdisciplinary unit because we have some really great ideas that we are hoping to use during our lesson planning. The book is very interesting and it helps that I can relate to it. So over all, I am having a lot of fun with this course and I am looking forward to the assignments in this class.

  1. Wonderful, Kim! It's nice to hear that you and Arlene find this class enjoyable with the online collaboration, literacy strategies, etc. Kudos to you for thinking ahead on how you will utilize the ideas in your classroom!

    Best regards,

  2. You guys did a great job. I like the way the flag is draped over the clothes line. I'm sure you had a deeper personal connection to the story than some of. Your "insider's" knowledge really shows through your poster. What does "bombye" mean?

  3. Kim, it must be nice reading about home. At least, the book goes into great detail about Hawaii. On Guam, we are just happy to hear them say the word "Guam" in a movie or in the media.

  5. PJ: Bombye sort of means "or else" or "eventually". For example: "Stop doing that, bombye you get cut!"

Alicia: It is nice that I can read a book I can directly relate to. Guam is slowly making its way to the top. Guam had an ultimate fighter, Mario has someone talking in Chamorro in the beginning of one of his songs ("Bermuda"), and Hawaii has a lot of Chamorros! That's how I met my husband! :) I do think they should focus not only on the bombing of Pearl Harbor, but also the bombing of Guam because that also serves a huge purpose (or the Japanese would not have bombed it!).

    Thank you for your comments!
