Anyway, back to Under the Blood-Red Sun. We get a sense of the growing tension toward Japanese immigrants in Hawaii before America enters World War II. However, because the story is from the point of view of a child/teenager, there seems to be a silver lining of hope somewhere in the midst of the chaos. There is also the world of baseball, to which the boys can escape their problems for even a little bit and just be boys having fun with friends. I can't wait to read more again tomorrow...
In this course, educators will learn how to support the needs of adolescent and young adults, helping them develop into confident, and independent readers and writers. Focus will be on the improvement of literacy skills through meaningful, constructive engagements in reading and writing.

July 6th Reflection
Today was kind of a busy day for me. I had a Praxis Prep class this morning, after which I came home and did some house chores, since my parents are off-island. I did a little grocery shopping, too. After taking care of those things, I took a nap, then woke up to start on homework. I read chapters 1-4 of Under the Blood-Red Sun and am enjoying the story. I like the subject of World War II, especially Japan's involvement in it, so the title of the book alone had me hooked. I did my Moodle post for it, and now I'm reflecting on it. I feel like Jake Sully from the movie Avatar, when he had to make a daily video log of his experiences on Pandora. Like him, we have to make daily blogs of our experiences in ED641 cyberworld, and though Dr. Rivera says it's mainly for the purposes of collaboration and sharing thoughts and ideas via blog technology, I think it's more for sanity. Being able to let out your feelings/frustrations about anything in the course is healthy; it's better than keeping it in your head all day. Unless you engage in self-talk. :)
