...Something I never really thought of until today. It's a coincidence that I have had to go down memory lane to try and think about my early days of school and really dig deep to remember some of the events about how I learned to read and write because just a few days ago, I re-purchased my high school yearbook (there were extras hidden somewhere and proceeds will support the ribbon cutting ceremony for JFK next month). I had a great time reminiscing, even past the high school years!
I enjoyed reading when I was younger, but I think I started way too early in reading those romance novels that I did because of the influence my older sisters had on me. If they weren't on the phone, doing chores, or bossing their kid sister around, their noses would be buried in those Bantam Sweet Dream romance novels (can you say "totally 80's")! Together, they at least collected about 200 of those paperback books. As time passed and they got busier with sports and extra-curricular activities in high school, I took over their addiction. I find it humorous thinking about those days because when they both left the house for college, me and my mom were stuck figuring out what to do with their collection (I couldn't read all 200+ books - I had better things to do like talk on the phone or hang out with friends in middle school). We ended up donating them to this used book store back in the day called Hafa Books. After all these years, I wonder if that store or one like it is open.
In this course, educators will learn how to support the needs of adolescent and young adults, helping them develop into confident, and independent readers and writers. Focus will be on the improvement of literacy skills through meaningful, constructive engagements in reading and writing.
Sadly, PJ, Hafa Books is no longer in operation :( Unless they moved out of the space under the laundromat to another place I don't know about. And I don't know if there's another store around like it.
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks for the info Christine! I guess if you have a Kindle, that shouldn't be a problem, right. Oh btw, this is Renee ;)
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to bring that yearbook. I want to see your picture. haha. I never got into the romance novels. I preferred R.L. Stine. Oh! Before R.L. Stine was The Babysitters' Club. I totally forgot about those books.
