Professional Development

From 3pm -5pm, we signed up and learned the schools curriculum.  Finally, Daniel arrives for his ESL lesson.  We worked on his workbook first.  He read 3 articles.  He was actually very good.  While he read, I helped him with words he had trouble pronouncing.  I wrote the words he had trouble with as he read the articles and went over it with him.  After each article, there were question and answer that we went through.  My first hand in teaching English other than my children.

  1. Hi Geri! Great pics! Wish I was there.

I know this class focuses on reading and writing,.... but does it have to be English? hehe.
Don't mind me. I'm being silly.

It would have been superb, if he taught you some basic Korean. You could surprise your Korean ESL kids with a greeting of Ahn nyung ha saeyo!
Guam has such a variety of cultures, and whenever you reach out by just saying hello in their language, it makes it easier to reach them.

  2. Yes, he taught me the hello greeting but I am so bad in remembering it and spelling it. I am sure the rest of the girls will be able to use it because they will be at Christine's English School the whole day Friday. Did you take a look at Dr. Rivera personal blog? She had Happy New Year and Merry Christmas translated into so many different languages.

  3. Good job guys! That's so inspiring that you were able to help not only with reading and writing but also help overcome the language barriers.

  4. It is definitely a literacy rich environment. All students are desiring more learning in reading, writing, speaking (sometimes math), or SAT prep. Geri seemed to be a natural, too!
