Well, today, Randall, Robito, and I arrived at the Agana Library at 10am for the last day of the summer reading. It was great! We all brought our children and they all got prizes from the raffle, as well as cake and pizza for a snack afterwards. The kids had a wonderful time and each child got 2 prizes each. They invited us to come down every Saturday, which would be nice, but of course we must get ready for classes this week, so hopefully in a couple of weeks, we could all meet up there with our kids and just read and relax.
Here is a picture of our little reading group.
In this course, educators will learn how to support the needs of adolescent and young adults, helping them develop into confident, and independent readers and writers. Focus will be on the improvement of literacy skills through meaningful, constructive engagements in reading and writing.
Great team work Cohort 3! I'm bummed that the rest of us weren't able to be there to meet your families. It's nice to be able to include family in one of our assignments since most of the time we are shushing them or telling them not to ask us questions until we're done with our homework!
ReplyDeleteShirleen and Cohort 3,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful family literacy experience! It's great that you were able to complete your professional development at the Hagatna Library and enjoy quality literacy time with your family as well! Kudos to all of you!
All the best,
Dr. Rivera
You're right PJ. I constantly tell my daughter "mommy will be right back", so it was nice to take her out and have a nice time and complete an assignment.
ReplyDeleteAw, that looks like fun and a nice experience! Great job guys!
ReplyDeleteThe guy standing in the back there next to me is Frankie Aflague, the Program Coordinator for the whole program, for all the public libraries on the island. He was the one I contacted to help bypass the whole police and court clearance. He was gracious enough to stand with us for the picture and wished us well.
ReplyDeleteIt was such a gathering of daughters there, my four year old, Shirleen's daughter (I didn't know she was in her early twenties), and Robito's three daughters. Even Frankie's two daughters were the ones taking the pictures.
Looks like a nice day at the library. Often times we tend to overlook the library as a fun way to spend a weekend. I think I might try to take my two sons we they are actually able to pay attention.
ReplyDeleteThis picture makes me smile :) I hope to one day have literacy moments like this with my kids in the future!
