I finally got a copy of the book "Under the blood red sun" by Grahan Salisbury. (Thanks Linda!)
It's a book done in the time era of World War II. I've read books from different view points. Sadako-a girl who experiences the after-effect of the atom bomb on Hiroshima.
Mariquita - A chamorro woman who suffered the Japanese occupation of Guam.
Rape of Nanking - Japanese war atrocities in China.
I've even read about the Japanese internment camps when I was living in Washington.
However, this is the first time I will read it from the viewpoint of a Japanese family in Hawaii (American territory) while it is being bombed from Japan.
As a future social studies teacher, I find this fascinating as I look for their version of history through their eyes. I'm looking forward to it.
In this course, educators will learn how to support the needs of adolescent and young adults, helping them develop into confident, and independent readers and writers. Focus will be on the improvement of literacy skills through meaningful, constructive engagements in reading and writing.

ReplyDeleteIt's a really good book. I finished it on Saturday. As with any good book, finishing it is bittersweet because you have to say goodbye to the characters. Is "Mariquita" the title of the book you referenced above? Who is the author? I'm always interested with Guam literature. I think it's great when someone from here actually publishes something. It's an incredible feat.
ReplyDeleteHi PJ
ReplyDeleteIt's called Mariquita, a tragedy of Guam. I believe the author's name is Chris Perez Howard. You can find it at the UOG bookstore, or bestseller in the mall or GPO.
Have a good one.
Thank you for the info!
