Reflection for 5th (late)

Posting an reflection on a self-introduction; I am not sure what I learned about myself, from telling about myself, that I did not already know.

The Syllabus was well structured, though it was not always intuitive which media to use for what. My current understanding is that we are supposed to be using livetext for both this class and most of our others, yet I have also heard through the grape-vine that the school is not quite ready to do so. The meeting with Dr. Sanches on it did not happen on Saturday morning (perhaps it was suposed to be the afternoon class) So, I am not sure. I registered for the blog, than spent all of my time and attention on Moodel, which appears to also function as a blog. So I am not sure what we gain by having 2 different blog like sites.

The book is well written for its target audience. I would not have picked it up for myself, but I can understand the importance for building up a list of works suitable for our classes.

  1. Seth,

Please note that the Moodleroom focuses on specific topics, where as the ED641 class blog/learning log (Activity 10) focuses on a more holistic reflection of the overall Moodleroom activities, online collaboration/expression pertaining to class requirements, strengthening of writing skills, and other class ideas beyond the Moodleroom activities, 24-7. Don't forget to also respond to your 4-5 of your classmates' entries. There is much to gain from being a reflective educator. Good luck!

    Best regards,
    Dr. Rivera

  2. I understand your concern Seth. And I do understand about being a reflective educator. It just seems to be over the top a bit that we must not only visit each one EVERY day, but also post and respond to 4-5 peoples comments every day. The first few autobiographies were interesting, especially for the people I knew. I scanned some of the others. Yet the thread goes on for so long, and it does seem to be repetitive to post a thought there and a reflection here.
As I said, it is only a month, and if my brain doesn't implode, I will be a lot more comfortable with the blogging, literature circles, and unit planning.

  3. Linda,

As long as you post replies to at least 4-5 of your classmates' entries for each of the respective forum discussions, that will suffice. Thus, you do not need to post 4-5 replies for a forum discussion in which you have already posted 4-5 entries for. Additional forum entries are optional. I hope this makes sense.

With regards to the blog, if you've already posted 4-5 comments for the week, then that will suffice. Of course, I encourage you to actively collaborate online in our class blog, but additional entries after the 4-5 comments for the week are optional.

It is imperative that we maintain the active online collaboration for accountability of learning. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime.

    Best regards,
    Dr. Rivera

  4. I distinguish between the Moodle forums and the blog site by thinking of the Moodle forums as assignment status checks and inquiries and the blog site as personal thoughts and reflections that don't have rigid standards as far as content. I definitely prefer the blog site because my fingers are happy to dance freely on the keyboard (instead of being restrained to answering specific prompts).
